Try the demo

Demo mode runs the real app against a simulated Audible and Audiobookshelf, with five people, overlapping libraries of real titles, and requests in every state. It’s how the screenshots in these docs are made, and the easiest way to look around or work on the code.

From a clone of the repository (needs a JDK and Node):

Terminal window
scripts/demo.sh # builds the UI and server, serves http://localhost:8080
scripts/demo.sh --fresh # start from a newly seeded world
  • A toolbar above the user menu switches between people (an admin and four members), slows down the API, changes how long downloads take, and resets the world.
  • Downloads are simulated but really go through the queue, staging and shelving, into .demo/library.
  • To try connecting Audible, paste any address containing authorization_code=good at the last step.

Never expose demo mode to a network: everyone is signed in as whoever the toolbar says.

With the demo running:

Terminal window
cd site
npm ci
npx playwright install chromium
npm run screenshots
